Advancing Understanding of Bio-Behavioural Synchrony: From Theory to Practice with SYNCC-IN Workshops

Kategoria: Aktualności Sekretariatu ds. studenckich, Aktualności Wydziału, Konferencje i spotkania naukowe

Social interactions, integral to human existence from the earliest days of life, are fundamental in satisfying our emotional and social needs while shaping developmental trajectories. Biobehavioral synchrony — the dynamic matching of behavioral, affective states, and biological rhythms between interactive partners — has emerged as a critical mechanism underpinning the development of socialization and emotional regulation skills.

This dynamic coordination of physiological and behavioral responses plays a pivotal role in fostering emotional bonds, regulating emotions, and facilitating effective social interactions. While extensively studied in the context of caregiver-child relationships, biobehavioral synchrony also extends to adult populations, including romantic relationships, teamwork dynamics, and therapeutic interactions.

Investigating biobehavioral synchrony requires an integrated approach that captures both physiological (e.g., heart rate variability, hormonal fluctuations, brain activity) and behavioral (e.g., gestures, facial expressions, vocalizations) dimensions. This multifaceted perspective not only deepens our understanding of human connection but also highlights the universality and importance of synchrony in shaping relationships across the lifespan.

During the Advancing Understanding of Bio-Behavioural Synchrony: From Theory to Practice with SYNCC-IN Workshop, participants will be introduced to the diverse methodologies employed in the study of biobehavioral synchrony. They will have the opportunity to attend lectures showcasing various approaches to measuring synchrony, followed by hands-on sessions. These practical workshops will guide participants through the process of conducting and analyzing both behavioral studies (with SECORE) and research utilizing brain imaging techniques. This comprehensive experience is designed to provide a thorough understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of studying synchrony in human interactions.

Date: 5-7.05.2025, Warsaw + online.
Registration till 27.04.2025 (register here).
Detailed programme can be downloaded HERE.
For: Researchers and students interested in bio-behavioral synchrony, fNIRS, EEG, HRV, and motor-vocal analysis.

About SYNCC-IN workshops: The meeting will include both plenary lectures and smaller group workshops to transfer theoretical knowledge into research practice. The event is designed for researchers and students interested in the project’s themes and methodologies (fNIRS, EEG, HRV, motor-vocal analysis) used to investigate bio-behavioural synchrony in both neurotypical and neuroatypical populations. It also welcomes anyone exploring the application of these techniques in fields such as psycholinguistics, philosophy, bioinformatics, physics, mathematics, and beyond.
