Streszczenie wystąpienia:
From our earliest days, our world is shaped by our temperament. Individuals of all ages demonstrate individual differences in early appearing, relatively stable, constitutionally-based tendencies to react to stimuli in certain ways and regulate those reactions as needed. Although temperament is apparent in infancy, it develops over time as individuals mature and adapt to the demands of their environment. How does one measure a collection of traits that are viewed as both stable and changing? What are the fundamental dimensions that characterize individual differences across the lifespan? To what degree are these differences consistent over the first several years of life? How are universal elements of reactivity and regulation influenced by the vastly different societal systems in which they develop? In this lecture, Professor Putnam will describe his own research concerning these questions, as well as discussing ways that interventionists and clinicians can use temperament to understand, predict, and enhance adjustment in children and adults.
