The Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw is accepting applications for a full-time Research Assistant (Early Stage Researcher) position at the Developmental Psychology Unit (Neurocognitive Development Lab) for a period of maximum three years (i.e. 36 months).

The position is part of SAPIENS, a pan-European Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (EU Horizon 2020 Programme), which aims to investigate how the dynamics of early social exchanges support the development of the social brain. The candidate’s employment will begin in the first quarter of 2020. The candidate employed for this position will pursue a Ph.D. in the area of developmental cognitive neuroscience, specifically she/he will investigate motor and vocal coordination between infants and their caregivers. The project will involve longitudinal dense-sampling study conducted throughout the first year of child’s life. Data from mobile inertial sensors as well as auditory data recordings will be analysed to establish how motor and vocal coordination shape child’s cognitive, emotional and language development. The data will be recorded in different settings (lab vs home).

The Ph.D. student will be based at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw (Poland), supervised by dr Anna Anzulewicz, dr hab. Przemysław Tomalski and prof. dr hab. Ewa Haman.

Candidates must meet the requirements for the position of an academic teacher listed in Article 113 of the Act of 20th July 2018 on Higher Education (Dz. U. 1668 with amendments).

They must also provide proof that they meet the following requirements specific to Early Stage Researcher position financed within MSC-ITN:

  • hold Master’s degree (or equivalent) in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, medical physics, biomedical engineering, or other related subject,
  • must not have resided or carried out their main activity (e.g. work, studies) in Poland for more than 12 months in the last 3 years,
  • at the time of recruitment (i.e. December 2019), the candidates must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research career and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.

The main tasks of the hired person will be to (among others):

  • conduct scientific research in the field of developmental cognitive neuroscience, publish works in international scientific journals,
  • participate in training schools and workshops organized within the SAPIENS network,
  • spend 6 months on a secondment to one of the Partners within the network

 

The Early Stage Researcher will be embedded in an active and social group of PhD students and junior and senior researchers. We offer:

  • work in a consortium of leading European institutions, including University of Warsaw (Poland) which supervise this individual project,
  • training schools on specific and generalizable skills (e.g. project management, academic and communication skills, advanced analysis techniques and typical and atypical brain development),
  • enrolment in an individual PhD programme at the best Faculty of Psychology in Poland (A+ category, accreditation with distinction from PKA),
  • an attractive salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations for Early Stage Researchers. The salary includes a living allowance, a mobility allowance and a family allowance (if married). The exact (net) salary will be confirmed upon appointment and is dependent on local tax regulations and on the country correction factor (to allow for the difference in cost of living in different EU Member States). The guaranteed PhD funding is for up to 36 months.
