Heidelberg University is a member of the 4EU+ Alliance, consisting of Charles University in Prague, Heidelberg University, Sorbonne University in Paris, the University of Warsaw, the University of Copenhagen and the University of Milan. 4EU+ aims to create a new quality of cooperation between the six universities in manifold areas. The goal is the creation of a ‘European University’ with compatible courses of study, flexible study paths for students and manifold mobility options for students and academic staff (www.4euplus.eu).

In March 2021, Heidelberg University offers free Online Intensive German Language courses to 50 students and doctoral candidates from its five 4EU+ partner universities. The courses are organized by the International Study Centre of Heidelberg University and include 4 weeks (80 hours) of language instruction i.e. 4 hours per day. The courses are offered on three different levels, elementary (A1/A2), intermediate (B1/B2), and advanced (C1), depending on levels of proficiency. All courses contain exercises dealing with German grammar, conversation, reading and writing, listening comprehension, lexis, phonetics, regional and cultural studies and information about studying in Heidelberg.

The programme starts on 2 March 2021. Online classes are between 9.00 a.m. and 12.30

p.m. An online placement test at the beginning of the course is included to make sure that every student is allocated to a matching class. The teaching materials will be announced at the beginning of each course.

The following optional classes are offered in the afternoons:

  • Film Seminar
  • Reading Course “German Literature” (B2 and above)
  • Philosophy (B2 and above)
  • Additional Exercises on Vocabulary and Grammar (beginners)

Course Period: 2 – 26 March 2021 / Monday – Friday 9 am – 12:30 pm.

Date of obligatory online placement test: 2 March 2021

ECTS: 8 (recognition needs to be discussed with Coordinator at home university)

Admission to the courses is granted to the first 50 applicants. The course is free of charge. The course fee of € 350,- is covered by funds provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The registration will close once a number of 50 participants is reached. A final confirmation, if the registration was successful will be sent by the 4EU+ Office Heidelberg
